The Experimental Cosmology Lab at the University of British Columbia is focussed on building instruments to measure the formation history of the Universe. In particular, we are interested in measuring the properties of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and in measuring the star formation history (SFH) of the Universe. We are involved in several experiments to accomplish these goals. The light emitted from the CMB and early-Universe star-forming objects is obscured by the atmosphere, so, for the most part, the telescopes are located at high altitudes, taken to sub-orbital altitudes on stratospheric balloons, or are satellites.
We are currently involved in a number of experiments designed to measure properties of the CMB and SFH. For the most part, we are intimately involved in the design, construction and operation of the telescopes, as well as the analysis of the data collected.
We are always interested in hearing from prospective grad students and post-docs. If interested, please contact us!
